Deal Close: Chelsea to sign 22-year-old World Cup sensation
Aleksandr Golovin has signed a contract to join Chelsea this summer, according to former Russia national team manager Valery Gazzaev. The 22-year-old midfielder has been Russia’s talisman at the World Cup with a goal and two assists in three matches so far.
Last week, Golovin’s mother stated that the Blues had been in contact with CSKA Moscow over a deal for the playmaker. And reports have suggested that Chelsea are working on a £27 million deal to sign the midfielder.
Valery Gazzaev, who has coached both CSKA and Russia’s national team, claims the World Cup star has already agreed to join Stamford Bridge outfit and has urged the player to make a move. ‘I think that Golovin will decide where he should go,’ Gazzaev told Mir 24. ‘As far as I know, he already signed a contract with Chelsea.
‘It seems to me that this is a good enough opportunity and a good contract. ‘On the one hand, this is a plus, on the other, a great responsibility. ‘I think that he is ready, given the way he has played at the World Cup, played in the Russian league and the Champions League.’
